Snow, Snow, Go Away!

I could not believe there was a dusting of snow on the ground (and my car!) this morning. Boo!
My sweet husband, who left before me this AM, brushed the snow and ice off of my windshield, so that I wouldn't have to- I really appreciated it today as I am sick. Another boo.

Just when I thought that spring was here, I get sick and it snows.
Not fun.
Anyone else ready for this to be gone:
And this to be here?:
I know I am!

Valentine's Day Tulips

I love Steve.
He is always so thoughtful and sweet. I love tulips and the ones he brought home for me on Valentine's Day were beautiful.

Outdoor Inspiration

So glad it is Friday and BEAUTIFUL outside and I have today off from work. Makes it a perfect start to the weekend.

This spring/summer I really want to get our outdoor living space fixed up. The past nine months living in our house have really been about getting the inside fixed up, including painting, lighting, kitchen remod, decor, appliances, rugs and new windows.

Now that spring is right around the corner, I am starting to get excited again about refreshing our outside living space. Here is some of my inspiration:
I love outdoor lighting!
Green is the perfect spring color.
Love the fire pit.
Custom made seat cushions...
sounds like a new project for me.
Love this vintage cupboard as an adorable outdoor goodies station.
So cute for holding all of our gardening supplies- will be picking one of these up at the next auction.

With that, I am off to finish sanding and staining our new/old dresser. Enjoy your weekend!

Auction Mania

Thanks to one of my dental assistants who loves to treasure hunt and shows like Auction Kings and Storage Wars, Steve and I have become auction addicts.

Let me back track... Steve has enjoyed the previously mentioned reality shows for a while now. While I am trying to watch DVRed episodes of Holly's World and Kourtney and Kim Take NY, Steve is attempting a TV takeover so he can watch some guys bid on storage units (they don't even know what is in them!?)

I have a wonderful assistant at work who had mentioned her love of local auctions and described the amazing treasures that she gets for pennies on the dollar. After hearing about nice furniture and seeing some of the photos of items, I decided I had to see what this was all about.

Of course, Steve couldn't wait.

Weekend #1: Harrisonburg, VA.

I must admit, it was a little out of my comfort zone. During the first couple of hours I was thinking more about the other attendants dental needs than any of the items up for bid. It was different, not too many things I needed- but then I saw the lantern.
It was dirty and covered with broken Christmas ornaments, but it was a REAL railroad lantern and I loved it. I stuck my little card in the air... and I WON that little guy. I paid $5. FIVE DOLLARS. I was hooked.

Since then, we have purchased quite a few things, some glass decorative items, more lanterns, coffee table and an Ethan Allen dresser- which I am currently in the process of refinishing. It is fun to find little treasures and participate in a real life eBay!

My dirty little lantern all cleaned up and actually working!

More to come of the finished product!

I feel sure there will be many more treasure hunting episodes in our future. I am excited for them :o)

Super Super Bowl Party!

This year, Steve and I threw our first (planning on it being annual) Super Bowl Bash!

We had lots of good food and great new friends over to our place for the game. It was so much fun. Can't wait to make it a law school tradition! Some pre-party pics for your viewing pleasure:

Homemade Sangria

I can't get over this weather!  I look at the extended forecast and I see 50's and 60's and my heart beats quickly... was lil 'ol Phil right? Is spring springing?

I sure do hope so and this little taste of sunshine reminds me of why I love warm weather and sunny afternoons- the feeling they bring of happiness and relaxing with friends and... sangria :o)

Homemade Red Sangria
delicious and super simple, here it is:

10 or so small oranges, juiced
1 green apple
1 red apple
1 cup frozen mixed berries (blue, razz, straw etc.)
1 bottle red wine

Juice oranges, pour juice into pitcher. Dice apples. Add apples and frozen mixed berries to orange juice. (The frozen berries help chill the sangria immediately!) Stir in bottle of wine. Add more juice or wine to suit your personal taste. Refrigerate for about 1 hour and serve.

Happy Heart Day!

Happy Valentine's Day to you!

Today is about love... let me tell you what I am loving- the amazingly, beautiful, sunny weather outside! It might be a little windy for some, but feeling the sun on my face is enough to make this the best Valentine's Day ever.

This might also be the best V-day ever because Steve surprised me with a romantic night away at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center in Staunton last night. His super sweet plan was for us to stay in Staunton on Sunday night so that I wouldn't have to do my usual 40 minute commute from Charlottesville to Staunton the morning of Valentine's Day! Bella was allowed to come and everything. How thoughtful, right?

Turns out I am off work today (something else to LOVE about today!)- so he was a little disappointed I wouldn't get to have a quick commute this morning like he had planned, however, it was still perfect to me. We had an amazing time last night at dinner and the beautiful and historic hotel and today I got to enjoy the beautiful weather. Heart!

New Year Resolutions.

I don't have any particular aversion to NYRs. I actually think that anytime you decide to make a change or take a look at what your goals are, it is beneficial. If it happens to be on January 1, good for you!

Steve and I have decided this year we are going to get back into a workout routine. Due to our busy schedules, we had gotten away from regular workouts. Not this year! We joined the acac in Charlottesville in January and we have been regulars ever since. It is so convenient because the downtown location is just over 2 miles from our house. The proximity is awesome- Charlottesville traffic can be pretty treacherous after work! Also, a new girl friend of mine, Lauren, is keeping me motivated. We meet regularly for workouts and chatting sessions.

I am looking forward to using my new Christmas present in conjunction to my new membership to keep me on track as well. Steve's present to me is one that we can use together to keep our NYR- a Women's Cannondale Quick 3, in white:
Can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can go riding together. I have a helmet, padded bike shorts, gel gloves and everything.

Whatever your NYR, good luck sticking to it. Think of it as any other goal towards which you are working, just one started on January 1.

Hi Friends!

Well, Happy New Year!

I can NOT believe that it has been over a month since my last post. Our end of 2010 and beginning of 2011 was filled with travel, work and more travel and work. To be honest, I have been exhausted and it's been hard to find extra time.  However, I have missed blogging and I am excited to update on all the fun we have been having.

So, Happy 2011- let it be a year of health, happiness and fun :o)
