Blackbird Salon LOVE!

My good friend Cathy has opened her own salon and it is AWESOME! It's called Blackbird Salon and located at 111 B North Lombardy Street in Richmond.
She has worked so hard to get it looking amazing and I am so happy for her! She did a fantastic job on my hair, as usual, and I can't wait to see how successful Blackbird Salon becomes.

If you get a chance, go get your hair done, you will be just as impressed as I am.

Sushi Feast

On Saturday night I decided we were going to have a Sushi Feast- the easy way.

*So, I'm not sure if I have yet discussed my love of grocery stores yet. But I love grocery stores. I especially love Harris Teeter. I think it stemmed from living in Richmond for so long and not having one, but it always felt like a treat going to Harris Teeter. So now that we have one near us, I love taking advantage of it.

Back to our Sushi Feast...

We zipped over to Harris Teeter and picked up a few rolls (I love that they have brown rice rolls!!) and some sake, brought it home and I whipped it all together- including edamame. It was so yummy and felt like we were at our very own sushi bar. It's all about the presentation!

Our Menu:
Brown Rice Salmon and Avocado roll
Brown Rice Veggie roll
Spicy Shrimp roll
Hot sake

Delicious Holiday Treat

This weekend Steve studied and I relaxed. After traveling every weekend in November and spending last weekend shopping, wrapping and preparing for Christmas, I needed a little down time.

So, I cooked up a few little treats.
I baked, I made Chex mix, we had a sushi feast on Saturday night and on Friday night I made this:

I'm just going to call it Delicious. And here is how I made it.

Delicious Holiday Treat (for grown-ups) *Makes 1 cocktail

1 oz Chilled Vodka (I used Absolut that was kept stored in the freezer)
2 oz Irish Cream Liquor
2 oz Chilled Coffee

Mix all ingredients together in an ice filled cocktail shaker. Mix until thoroughly chilled and strain into martini glass. Enjoy!

Christmas- Wrap it up!

Since we are going to be in Florida for Christmas again this year, I wanted to make sure that our tree had wrapped presents underneath of it for a couple of weeks before we leave. Christmas trees look so bare without brightly colored packages tucked underneath!
So, last week I started wrapping and making gift tags.
I made tags this year because somehow, in the move, our giant stash of Christmas tags went missing. Strange how that happens, I think.
Anyway, with a little bit of creativity, some beads, markers, colored pencils and a hot glue gun, I whipped up some hand made gift tags that turned out quite nicely. And, even better, they were easy to do!

Merry Christmas present wrapping to you!

Winter Wine Tasting

After spending Thanksgiving in Northern VA with Amanda, Christian and family, mom came back to Charlottesville to stay with us for a few days. We decided to visit a couple of wineries that we had not yet been to while she was here- Kluge and Blenheim.

Little did we know that Kluge is being sold. It was good to see it at least once before it changes hands- future unknown. The wine that they had left was pretty good and we had fun.

Blenheim is the winery that is owned by Dave Matthews. Steve and I have been wanting to visit since we moved to C-ville and we finally got our chance. The wine was great and the tasting room is beautiful as well.

ACC Champs

So proud to be a Hokie!

Yesterday's game against Florida State was amazing. We played well, the game was captivating and our defense AND our offense scored- lots.

Although we were not actually in the stands (we were MUCH warmer, snuggled on the couch) we cheered just as loudly as if we were there.

Turns out this season ended a LOT better than it started. Life is good for Hokies everywhere.
Looking forward to playing Stanford in the Orange Bowl!
