Today I got my very first paycheck!! YES! It feels great to get 'paid' and I am happy to finally be an earner. Steve and I went to dinner at TEN to celebrate the occasion, and it was delicious.

Happy pay day to me. :o)

Childhood revisited

Steve and I bought a new desk this weekend for our office. It is one of those nice big "grown up" people desks that is going to be great for him to use to study for law school, and for me work, blog, pay bills, etc. (I will post pictures of the office when we finish getting everything put together, pictures hung....) The office has been the last room that we have tackled in our new home, probably because we didn't have any real office furniture to put in it, and the room has pretty much served as a catch all for the things we didn't quite know what to do with.

So the unpacking and getting rid of MANY old papers, magazines, receipts and the like took place yesterday and this morning. We were doing great and really staying on track... until we came to the box of the 'ol Nintendo and Super Nintendo game systems, 7- yes SEVEN- original Nintendo game controllers (two of them in the original boxes, unopened) and games. Then our unpacking came to a stand still and the gaming began.

How could we resist the temptation of playing our old childhood favorites? So we started off just "trying them out to see if they still work." We ended up back in middle school, playing Dr. Mario, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter II, Mortal Combat (the original) until we had one bad case of "Nintendo Thumb."

For those of you thinking this collection of gems came from Steve's boxes of goodies, you are mistaken. It might surprise you that, in fact, all of these things came from the Hoexter side of the family. That's right, folks, this was my contribution to our marriage. I am honestly surprised that we didn't find the Atari at the bottom of the box! (Anyone who knows Steve, knows that he was the one who brought the Wii)

After our day of reminicing, we decided that it was all worth keeping (seeing as they all still worked- ya know) even though we both know we will put them in a box, in the back of a closet and they will stay there for the next 5 years, until one day, we once again decide we want to have a day of old school Nintendo fun.

Happy Birthday Donna

Happy Birthday to my mom (in-law) Donna! I am glad you guys are having a fun day of shopping- can't wait to hear what you decided about the Pandora bracelet! :o)
I am sure you won't mind me sharing the "best" part about your special day- that you are now officially senior games legal. We are excited to hear how well you do bowling this year and know it will be a blast to not only go to watch, but now actually be able to play in the games- and win! Because we know you will, Mrs. 300.
Enjoy dinner tonight and know that we are thinking about you and happy that today is your special day.

Excited to Eat Pray Love

Who else is looking forward to seeing Julia Roberts in the upcoming film Eat Pray Love? I know I am!
First of all, I love Julia Roberts. Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich, Ocean's, My Best Friend's Wedding, etc, etc... all amazing. I can't wait to see the movie and am starting the book this weekend (gotta read the book before I see the movie!)

K&K Photography

I can not get over how much we loved our wedding photographers, Jeff and Ana Kathrein from K&K Photography! They are amazing people, super photographers and perfectly professional. They were so helpful and friendly, that it was sad saying goodbye after our wedding was over.

Check out their blog, we are currently featured. :o)

Franklin Bed & Breakfast

Our weekend with Corbin and Tyler was awesome! Just to get you in the right frame of mind, I am going to let you read our hilariously witty itinerary prepared by "Captain T" aka Tyler. Steve and I were amazed by how well thought out our little vacation was and were SUPER impressed by not only the planning but the delivery of our weekend get-away plans...
Fourth of July Weekend 2010
Friday, July 2nd 2010
Upon your arrival you will be greeted by our innkeeper, Lucy, with a wagging tail and welcome whimper.  Please be careful as you enter the driveway as our two security guards, Joe and Snowball, sometimes inhibit through traffic.  You will find chilled refreshments in the dining room.  Locally caught steamed crabs will be prepared and ready for feasting on after you unpack.  Old bay seasoning and vinegar will be available upon request and fresh sweet corn and homemade biscuits will serve as accompaniments. Chef Corbin will be preparing her best dessert dish to complete the feast.  Following dinner, allow yourself to relax in our living room with cocktails and conversation.
Saturday, July 3rd 2010
Breakfast with your choice of warm blueberry muffins or French toast will be served between 9 and 10.  We have scheduled an afternoon aboard the Nauti Rose cruising the Potomac River.  Captain T will take you sightseeing on the Bay, including a stop on a beautiful white sand beach overlooking the Chesapeake.  If time allows, a fishing trip may be arranged.
The Nauti Rose will plan to dock around 4:00 at the Island Inn & Suites located in Piney Point, Maryland.  Check-in and showers will follow.  As you settle into your King or Queen room and prepare for the evening, please help yourself to some refreshments in the dining area.  Sip your drink of choice on the balcony overlooking the Potomac River.  Dinner reservations at the Island Bar & Grill are at 7:00.  A full bar will be right next door with live entertainment for an after-dinner option.  After a wonderful dinner and a few martinis the suite will be only a short walk away.
Sunday, July 4th 2010
Wake up and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee on the balcony of your suite as you begin your Independence Day.  Brunch will be available between 10 and 2.  After brunch, Captain T will be waiting for you at the dock for the cruise back to Virginia.   The cruise back to Virginia should only be about an hour-long ride, depending on the weather.  After loading the boat and unpacking back at home feel free to stay as long as you’d like and enjoy the afternoon however you please.
We are so glad you chose the Franklin Bed and Breakfast as a place to spend your holiday weekend.  We are looking forward to your stay.
·          The Franklin Bed and Breakfast is pet friendly, however some of the weekends activities may not be suitable for family pets.  Some local boarding facilities for Fido include Alexander Pinschers Dog Grooming and Boarding 804-529-9921 or Pet B&B, LLC 804-453-7111.
·          Be sure to bring sun block, beach towels, and a bathing suit
·          Crabs for the crab feast will be provided by Faunce’s Seafood in Mt. Holly, VA.
·          You can view pictures of the Island Inn & Suites by visiting their website.

How awesome is that? We felt like guests of honor and couldn't believe that they had prepared so much for our visit!

Thank you Franklins- we had a blast and can't wait until you come visit us in Charlottesville at the end of August. Which gives me an idea...

I am going to start working up an itinerary for you guys that surely won't disappoint!

First Week of Work

This week was my first week as a practicing dentist.  After a little bit of a questionable start (my license had not come through yet!) by Wednesday morning I was licensed and ready to start seeing my new patients! Shew.

It was a great week, the office and everyone there is wonderful, and I am excited about my new "doctoral" status. It has been a long time coming and I am so happy that I am finally where I have been trying to get for the past, uh, seven years.

Even though it was wierd at first hearing everyone call me by and introducing myself as "Dr. Ryan," I am kinda starting to get used to it... and it feels great!

Should be an interesting week, next week, though. The doctor that I work for is going to be on vacation all week. So it is just going to be me- by myself! It is going to be a good test to see what I can handle. After a good 3 days under my belt, I am totally up for the challenge.

Fruit Pizza

Thanks to my friend Lizzy Poole, who gave me this amazing recipe at my bridal shower, I have created the best summer dessert for our trip to the Franklin's this weekend... Fruit Pizza. Totally delicious and pretty simple to make, it's perfect!

1 pkg of refrigerated sugar cookie dough
2, 8oz pkgs of cream cheese (I used 1/3 less fat)
1/2 cup sugar (to taste)
1 tablespoon vanilla
Seasonal fruit of your choice!

Flatten sugar cookie dough on pizza pan or pan of your choice (I used a rectangle cake pan, because my pan has a lid with handles that makes is e.a.s.y. to transport!) and bake as directed. Let cook completely.

Soften cream cheese in microwave. Stir in sugar and vanilla. Mix until creamy. Spread on completely cooled cookie crust.

Select seasonal fruit and slice as appropriate. (I used strawberries, blueberries and bananas to stick with a red, white and blue theme.)

Place fruit on prepared crust and voila- fruit pizza. Share with friends and enjoy!
